After breakfast in Tbilisi hotel, check out and drive towards the Greater Caucasus mountains.
Before leaving the city, visit The Chronicle of Georgia, often referred to as Stonehenge of Georgia. This huge monument of the late Soviet period depicts the brief history of the country of Georgia and opens a splendid view of Tbilisi and the river Mtkvari valley.
Our next stop is Mtskheta town – the historical capital of the early Georgian Kingdom Iberia. Mtskheta is known for its two sites that are included in UNESCO World Heritage list: Svetitskhoveli Cathedral of 11th c., and Jvari Monastery of 6th c.
After visiting Mtskheta and both of these monuments, follow Georgian Military Highway to the north. After 60 km stop at Zhinvali reserve and the Ananuri Architectural Complex, built 16-17th cc. The fort consists of former residential buildings of local feudal Aragvis Eristavi, defensive and watchtowers, churches, and bell towers. The area is picturesque. The children’s playground is located on the riverbank nearby the fort. Take a moment and swim in the fresh mountain river reserve.
From Ananuri we drive to the north, pass Gudauri ski-resort. If the weather is calm and nice, don’t skip this nice opportunity: paragliding is available at Gudauri observation platform. The elevation here is 2000m above sea level.
Dinner and overnight in Gudauri hotel.
