A full-day tour to Mtskheta and its surroundings covers Armaziskhevi Archaeological Site, Shiomgvime monastery, and the former capital of ancient Georgian kingdom Iberia, small town Mtskheta. The historical monuments: the Jvari Monastery, the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, and the Samtavro Monastery, are listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites as an outstanding example of medieval religious architecture in the Caucasus.

9:00 Morning pick-up from the hotel.
Today the history of ancient kingdom of Iberia will revile while exploring the surroundings of Mtskheta. First stop is Jvari Monastery. Drive to the hill top - breathtaking panoramic view, stone masterpiece of early Christian architecture and the scenery for orientation of places to visit are very attractive from here.
The area was settled already back in the Bronze and early Iron Ages. Excavations in Armaziskhevi are located in 5 minutes’ drive from Mtskheta and tell the story of elitism, Roman and pre-Christian culture in the region.
Break a day in Mtskheta for lunch. Georgian traditional dishes will be served in local traditional restaurant.
After the lunch there is another story: Royal family adopted Christianity in 319 and it became the state religion of Kartli (Kingdom of Iberia). Paganism was re-placed in the early 4th c by a new faith. Visit the tomb of the first Christian king and Queen in Samtavro, drive to Shio-Mgvime Monastery and finish the day visiting Svetistkhoveli and Antiokhia in Mtskheta.
In the evening optional Mtkvari River cruise and drive back to Tbilisi.
