Drive to Uplistsike, the ancient cave settlement in Georgia.
The unique wine cellar is cut in a send rock, and is located on the territory of Uplistsikhe Museum-Reserve. The cellar is roofed in a mixed style of Meskhetian “wooden crown” and the flat Bany roof. The building includes Qvevry (clay pitchers) for wine storage and a tasting area. The yard is decorated with ancient vine varieties terraces. A cellar guide serves natural wines produced from local vine varieties (Khidistauri, Atenuri, Chinebli and Tavkveri).
Next village is Ateni, just in 15 km from the town Gori. Ateni is the only appellation microzone of the Kartli region, distinguished with the wine ‘’Atenuri’’ (sparkling white wine, blend of Chinuri, Goruli Mtsvane, and Aligote grapes). Visit the local winery ‘’Chateau Ateni’’, get introduced with the winemaker and start excursion through vineyards. After exploring the unique Kartli grape varieties move to the wine cellar and get acquainted with traditional methods of winemaking. Enjoy lunch in Ateni.
Finish the tour with wine tasting and head to Guramshvili`s Marani (wine cellar) in village Saguramo, operated by the Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking company. Have an excursion in the following spaces: traditional winemaking cellar, classic winemaking section, bottling and laboratory section, and a wine cellar. Here, visitors have a chance to see the handmade production method of sparking wine (French Champagne). Taste 3 types of Kartli wines.
From Saguramo, drive back to Tbilisi. Visit the largest wine bar-shop in Tbilisi named as 8000 Vintages that has a great selection of Georgian fine wine and snacks. Experience 1-hour wine tasting with a qualified sommelier, compare classic and Georgian winemaking methods, and discuss the wine characteristics (wine color, aromas, etc).
