Celebrating Georgia’s Independence Day

Every year on May 26, Georgia celebrates one of the most important days in its modern history — Independence Day. This date marks the proclamation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia in 1918, following the collapse of the Russian Empire. For Georgians, it is a symbol of freedom, national identity, and resilience.

Though Georgia’s path has not been easy — facing occupation, wars, and political upheaval — the spirit of independence has remained strong. Today, May 26 stands not only as a reminder of the country’s sovereignty, but also as a tribute to those who fought for it — past and present.
