Winemaking traditions in Georgia and South Caucasus span for thousands of years, that’s why grape and vineyard have become the symbols of the country and culture. Nowadays Georgia gains interest with qvevri technologies, which is recognized by UNESCO as a significant intangible cultural heritage. Comparing to large industrial wineries, small ones produce distinctive, but more limited amounts of wine.
A 3-day exclusive wine tour is specially created for wine industry specialists and wine enthusiasts. The itinerary covers the main viticulture region of Kakheti with several appellations of Georgia. It gives you the possibility to visit wine cellars and wineries and taste wine from the unique grape varieties. You will get acquainted with the traditional Georgian and classic methods of winemaking.

Driving distance: 168 km
Drive to the eastern part of Georgia – Kakheti, the largest winegrowing region (70% of the country’s production), where the 15 appellation microzones can be located out of state’s total 20. Our first wine stop is at village Manavi – Giuani winery, which using both traditional and classic methods of winemaking. Have a wine tasting and get to know more about the signature of this winery. From Manavi head to town Sighnaghi. Follow the cobbled roads and walk along the famous medieval curtain wall, from where you will have stunning views over the valleys of river Alazani and peaks of the Greater Caucasus mountains.
Afterward visit ‘’Okro`s Wines’’ in the town that focuses on producing the natural (bio) wine from Kakhetian grape varieties: ‘’Rkatisteli’’, ‘’Mtsvane’’, ‘’Saperavi’’, etc. All wine is made with traditional Georgian methods (fermenting, storing, aging in Qvevri-clay vessel). Have wine tasting, lunch, and enjoy the fascinating views of Alazani valley.
Continue our wine tour in Tsinandali (dry white wine, blend of Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane grapes) winemaking estate. Have excursion in House Museum of Alexander Chavchavadze a Georgian aristocrat and the founder of Georgian Romanticism. Georgian classic winemaking started on his own initiative and wine was bottled here for the first time. Taste a glass of wine. After the excursion reaches Kisiskhevi village for overnight.

Driving distance: 105 km
Head to Napareuli village (PDO, red dry wine made by Saperavi grape) and have an excursion at ‘’Qvevri and Qvevri Wine Museum’’ of Twins Wine Cellar. Several halls showcase the whole process of Qvevri and Qvevri winemaking. Afterward, explore the wineries of Shilda village.
The first one is the winery with the same name as the village – ‘’Shilda Winery’’ - It produces 17 varieties of wine, brandy and grape vodka with carefully selected traditional local grape varieties and modern technology.
Have wine tasting and lunch there.
The second local wine cellar is ‘’Chubini’’ – owned by a young winemaker who will introduce his story and technologies. Continue the tour in Kvareli (PDO, red dry wine made by Saperavi grape) and visit one of the largest factories – ‘’Khareba’’. It comprises vineyards and wine producing factories, as in the east (Kvareli) as in the west part (Terjola) of Georgia. Khareba produces 50 types of wine from 25 vine varieties and has 7 places of origin (PDO). The location of the winery is impressive, as the 7.7-meter tunnel is carved in Caucasus mountains and natural temperature (12-14 degrees) inside creates superb conditions for storing and aging of wine. The tour starts from the tunnel, where you can get detailed information about the history of the winery and current position in local, worldwide markets. Have wine tasting of selected wines.
Drive back to Kisiskhevi.

Driving distance: 152 km
Drive to Telavi city – administrative center of Kakheti region. Have excursion at Batonis Tsikhe fort, served as the residence of Kakhetian kings between 17th-18th centuries. The complex consists of King Erekle Second`s Palace, 2 churches, and a royal bathhouse. Have free time in the city and afterward head to the village of Vardisubani located 5 km from Telavi. Visit Kbilashvili family with 4 generations of Qvevri (egg-shaped earthenware vessel used for making, aging, and storing the wine) manufacturing history. Get acquainted with the Qvevri making by its master Zaza. Have lunch and taste a glass of Qvevri wine.
Continue exploring Qvevri wines in Akhmeta town. Visit ‘’Lekso`s Winery’’ owned by a local winemaker Lekso, producing unusual blending of rare Kakhetian grape varieties. He will give you information about his winemaking history and technologies.
Drive to Tbilisi through the Tsiv-Gombori mountain range. Reach the largest wine bar-shop in Tbilisi 8000 Vintages with a great selection of Georgian fine wine. Experience 1-hour wine tasting with qualified sommelier and try some wine from other wine regions of Georgia (Kartli, Imereti, etc.).
Have free time till the evening farewell dinner at a Georgian restaurant.
