Winemaking traditions in Georgia and South Caucasus span for thousands of years, that’s why grape and vineyard have become the symbols of the country and culture. Nowadays Georgia gains interest with qvevri technologies, which is recognized by UNESCO as a significant intangible cultural heritage. Comparing to large industrial wineries, small ones produce distinctive, but more limited amounts of wine.

It gives you the possibility to visit wine cellars and wineries and taste wine from the unique grape varieties. You will get acquainted with the traditional Georgian and classic methods of winemaking.

Sights to Visit

Day to day

Breakfast at the hotel.

Driving distance:  168 km

Drive to the eastern part of Georgia – Kakheti, the largest winegrowing region (70% of the country’s production), where the 15 appellation microzones can be located out of state’s total 20. Our first wine stop is at village ManaviGiuani winery, which using both traditional and classic methods of winemaking. Have a wine tasting and get to know more about the signature of this winery. From Manavi head to town Sighnaghi. Follow the cobbled roads and walk along the famous medieval curtain wall, from where you will have stunning views over the valleys of river Alazani and peaks of the Greater Caucasus mountains.

Afterward visit ‘’Okro`s Wines’’ in the town that focuses on producing the natural (bio) wine from Kakhetian grape varieties: ‘’Rkatisteli’’, ‘’Mtsvane’’, ‘’Saperavi’’, etc. All wine is made with traditional Georgian methods (fermenting, storing, aging in Qvevri-clay vessel). Have wine tasting, lunch, and enjoy the fascinating views of Alazani valley.

Continue our wine tour in Tsinandali (dry white wine, blend of Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane grapes) winemaking estate. Have excursion in House Museum of Alexander Chavchavadze a Georgian aristocrat and the founder of Georgian Romanticism. Georgian classic winemaking started on his own initiative and wine was bottled here for the first time. Taste a glass of wine. After the excursion reaches Kisiskhevi village for overnight.
