Shumi Winery

Shumi’s vineyards, Winery, and Cultural and Tourist Complex allow you to journey through 8,000 years of winemaking tradition while actively experiencing the best of Georgia.

Founded in 1997 at a historic location in Tsinandali, Kakheti, Georgia’s famous wine-making region, Shumi produces a wide range of grape-based alcoholic beverages and foods, including some with patented technologies which exist nowhere else in the world.

With its philosophy of quality and innovation Shumi is the first company in Georgia first to utilize and develop biodynamic and green harvest methods and to produce certified organic wines. Shumi wines have earned more than 350 prestigious international awards and are exported to more than 29 countries around the world. In 2020, the Wine Company SHUMI was recognized as THE BEST PRODUCER OF GEORGIA at MUNDUS VINI, Germany.

The Shumi Winery and Tourist Complex occupies an area of 23 acres and includes:

  • Collection of Vines, one of the largest collections in the world, an encyclopedia of more than 900 living vines;
  • First Wine Museum in Georgia, where some exhibits are 6,000 years old;
  • Georgian Ethnographic Pavilion, where visitors can participate in Georgian traditions;
  • Gastronomic zones with restaurant and terraces, cafes, verandas, pavilions and tasting areas, mostly located outdoors, where Shumi’s best can be appreciated at one’s pleasure;
  • Marani, where Shumi’s wines are made in Qvevri vessels and aged in oak barrels;
  • Enoteca, a cellar vault holding Shumi’s best wines;
  • Decorative Garden, with sculptures made by Georgian artists;
  • Wine Shop, showcasing a wide assortment of different products including Company Shumi’s exclusives that have no analogues in the world, such as Genesis, Lazare, Zigu, Shobili, churchkhela Tsinandali, Zigu ice cream, and many others;
  • Chip and Putt par 3 Golf Practice Facility.

Experiences:

  • Tours and wine tastings in three languages (English, Georgian and Russian) - professional guides introduce guests to the history of Georgian winemaking, including the traditional Qvevri method and the art of making Shumi wines;
  • Hands-on activities including harvesting grapes, pressing grapes in an ancient winepress, and making Georgia’s traditional Chacha;
  • Culinary master-classes, including baking bread in a tone (traditional Georgian oven), and cooking Georgia’s national foods such as, churchkhela, khachapuri, Georgian barbeque, khinkali, and more;
  • Classes in Georgian traditional Qvevri wine making and participating in Qvevri opening ceremonies;
  • Traditional Georgian lunches and dinners as well as the renowned Georgian supra (feast). Meals are available in the verandas and pavilions of the Tourist Complex or at one SHUMI’s biodynamic vineyards in the foothills of the dramatic Caucuses mountains;
  • Menus that reflects a wide range of Georgian dishes prepared from local high-quality ingredients and SHUMI-grown organic products. Many dishes are prepared over an open fire, and barbeque meats are cooked using a water mill and SHUMI’s patented technology;
  • Turn-key professional private and corporate parties and beautiful wedding and other celebratory ceremonies, including poignant polyphonic singing performances by SHUMI’s own folk group.
