Guramishvili’s Marani
Guramishvili’s Marani is a winery with a notable historical background in the Saguramo village, next to Mtshketa, 28 km drive from Tbilisi.
In the 19th c winery was owned by the family of famous writer, Georgian public figure Ilia Chavchavadze’s wife.
Olga Guramishvili- Chavchavadze (1842 – 1927), the wife of Ilia Chavchavadze, was public figure: a member of the society for the spreading of literacy among Georgians and a member of historical and ethnographic society of Georgia; she was a chair of Georgian Women’s Charity Association (from 1895 to 1906); led a school of sewing for women; assisted the association of nobility of Tbilisi governorate helping poor students. In 1908, with her active participation, a school was opened in this estate of Saguramo.
Today property belongs to the company KTW (Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking) - one of the largest wine and spirits producing companies in Caucasus region. Established in 2001, KTW produces wine, brandy, sparkling wine and chacha with traditional Georgian techniques mixed with the state of art technologies.
With the efforts of current owners, unique grape species have been reintroduced in Guramishvili’s Winery vineyards. Guramishvili’s Winery regularly produces wine and classical champagne with traditional Georgian methods. Visitors can sightsee the winery and taste the local wine varieties.
Winery has a restaurant with traditional interior, offering both Georgian and European dishes to the visitors. Mixture of various types of food, delicious wine and live music makes the visit even more enjoyable.
