Sevsamora Winery
The name of the winery is closely connected with its location. The first story goes back to the Ancient Greek historian and geographer Strabo, who provides information about a fortress town Sevsamora on the right bank of the river Aragvi, on the side of the trade road south of the town Mtskheta. On the other hand, the city of Sevsamora could have been one of the forms of the Georgian toponym – Tsitsamuri (the present name of the village).
Winery Sevsamora has been successfully operating on the market since its foundation – 2015. 2018 was the year of the first vintage when the winery produced 20 000 bottles, 7 types of wine with traditional method in Qvevri. The year of 2019 was the startup of classical and Qvevri bio wine production. In 2020, due to the high demand for Qvevri-wines, its amount increased up to 45,000 bottles, 25 % out of which will be produced using bio-organic technology. Nowadays, Marani Sevsamora is producing 16 types of wine with traditional and classical methods.
Marani Sevsamora owns 8 ha of vineyards, 4 Ha are designed for the production of bio-wines and are applied for Bio-Wine growing and Bio-Wine making standards.
The practice of working in bio-vineyards is based on organic farming, which implies the use of only organic bio preparations and fertilizers. According to the strict rules of organic farming each hectare is cultivated manually. They are producing the following grape varieties: Saperavi, Kisi, Khikhvi, Chinuri, Mtsvane, Tavkveri, Shavkapito, and some rarities such as Buza, Simonaseuli, Cabernet Franc, Danakharuli and Asuretuli Shavi.
Sevsamora Winery is equipped with modern Bucher Vaslin technology. It’s noteworthy that this is a place where modern and traditional methods of winemaking are blended, which gives an opportunity to produce high-quality, premium wines. The company is storing wines with traditional method in Qvevri, as well as classical wines. Due to the high demand for Qvevri wines, the company is planning to increase production to 45000 bottles.
