Lagazi Wine Cellar
Founded in 2013 Lagazi is a family-owned wine cellar, located in village Zemo Alvani, Kakheti region. Here, wine is hand-made product, which is produced according to Georgian traditional methods – keeping squeezed juice and grapes in skin inside clay vessel Qvevri that are buried under the ground.
“If you've happened to fall in love with Georgian wine and you would like to treat yourself to one of the truest expressions - you should definitely give Shota's wines a try. Not for the faint of heart, both his Rkatisteli and Mtsvane see 6 months on skins and a whole year in qvevri. This means lots of structure and complexity, but there is also a gentleness and elegance behind the seemingly thunderous first impression. Shota is just 26 years old, but he cares deeply about the Georgian landscape, traditions and especially the agricultural side of things”
“The main aim of our wine cellar is to produce pure and natural wine, moreover, to produce it from forgotten vine varieties” - said Shota Lagazidze, the winemaker and the owner of the winery.
- “In our family wine cellar, you can get acquainted with traditional method of wine making in Qvevri, taste natural wine “Lagazi” that is made from different grape variety and have a family lunch, with traditional Georgian dishes. You also can learn how to cook Georgian food on a cooking class. Masterclass features recipes for traditional Georgian dishes, such as khinkali (dumplings from the highlands), khachapuri (Tushetian style), churchkhela (Georgian candy).
