Walking distance: average 10 km per day Day 1: Tbilisi full day Full day city tour: Visit Old and new districts, Old Synagogue, Museum of Archaeology, Narikala Fortress (4th century); Sulfur bathes; Metekhi church (13th century); Anchiskhati basilica (6th century); Rustaveli Avenue, Funicular, Art Museum, Ethnographical museum After Tbilisi city tour drive to ancient capital of Georgia - Mtskheta and visit Jvari monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Return to Tbilisi Dinner and overnight in Tbilisi Day 2: Tbilisi - Vardzia After breakfast, drive straight to South Georgia, on the way Pass Borjomi - Spa resort. Visit Khertvisi fortress, built in 10th c. and tiny Lake Tsunda with lot of fish, and little church from 12th c near the lake. A famous town existed here in the 4th c. B.C. The citadel served as an administrative and religious center in the 5th c. A.D. Soon we will arrive in cave-town Vardzia. Overnight in camps near Vardzia Day 3: Upper Vardzia - Greater Vardzia In the morning, explore cave city Vardzia from 12th c. which later became well defended monastery complex. We will walk to visit upper Vardzia and greater Vardzia. Overnight in camps near Vardzia Day 4: Vanis kvabebi - Chachkari, camp From Vardzia hike to Vanis Kvabebi - cave monastery from Middle Ages, where monks lived in seclusion. We will pass ruins in the fortified town of Tmogvi, built in the 10th-11th cc, which later served as an administrative center for the Georgian provincial governor. Below the fortress on the cliff wall are caves where monks lived. Lower down on both banks of the river are two bridges and several palaces. This is the site of Tmogvi, which was destroyed by earthquakes in 1089 and 1283. In the evening, we will walk to the village Chachkari near Vardzia. Overnight in Chachkari in camps Day 5: Chachkari - Niala Valley In the morning, explore medieval village Chachkari. Later walk to visit 6th century church. We will move to Alpine Zone of Smaller Caucasus Range. Overnight on Niala valley in camps Day 6: Niala Valley - Erusheti Mountains Walk towards Erusheti Mountains, which rise on the border of Georgia and Turkey. We will have a wonderful opportunity to observe magnificent views of Peak Gumbati (2736 m.) Overnight in Erusheti Mountains in camps Day 7: Erusheti Mountains Hike in alpine zone and arrive in summer farm building, where the shepherds keep their sheep. Overnight in camps in mountains Day 8: Erusheti Mountains - Agara Start trekking in the morning. Pass basilicas from 6th-7th cc. and arrive in Agara Monastery (19th c) area. Overnight in Agara in camps Day 9: Agara - Akhaltsikhe Walk towards Sapara Monastery complex from 13th-14th cc. On our way we will pass village Andriatsminda and the Church of to St. Apostle Andria, who preached Christianity in the 1st c. A.D. in Georgia. Overnight in regional centre Akhaltsikhe in camps Day 10: Akhaltsikhe - Tbilisi Drive to Tbilisi. Transfer to TBS airport. Departure Price
