Day by day itinerary

Day 1: June 28
Arrival. Transfer to the hotel. Rest.
You'll travel through the Northern regions of Armenia, where the forest zone dominates. Here even people differ with their peaceful nature. In Lori region, famous for its wonderful nature,you'll see the Medieval educational centers, the monasteries of Haghpat & Sanahin included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO. During this day you'll also see the third largest freshwater mountain lake in the world Sevan /1900 m above sea level, surface 1240 km2/ with its Peninsula.

Day 2: June 29
Vardavar Festival Celebration
Hayravank Monastery, Vardavar Festival Celebration. You'll see the way the Armenian people celebrate The Transfiguration of Christ, the so-called Vardavar. Enjoy the national music, dance and the ancient ritual from the beginning to the end. You won't have seen it in any other place. You'll learn to knit a Khachbur, which is the symbol of prosperity and fertility and take it with you.

Day 3: June 30
After having a city tour in Yerevan, you'll continue your trip to the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church, The Holy See of St. Ejmiatsin where the Catholocos of all Armenians, Head of The Armenian Church, lives and works. You'll see the architectural masterpieces, the unique monasteries of Hrispime and Gayane, /7th C./ named after the holy virgins, propagating Christianity in Armenia.

Day 4: July 1
In the Matenadaran, the depositary of ancient manuscripts, you can see rare examples of hand-written books from 5th C. on religious, philosophical, medical, mathematical subjects, having great artistic value. The books on literature are especially interesting, adorned with multicolored miniatures, preserved till our days due to the high quality of the natural paints and proficiency of writers.
You'll continue your trip to Garni, the only Pagan Temple /1st C./ preserved on the territory of the former Soviet Union. You'll see the unique Geghard Monastery /13th C./, hewn in a huge rock. It refers to the time when the architectural artistic thought of the Armenians reached the depths of caves.
Additional: Ararat Cognac Factory with tasting of the Armenian traditional cognac.

Day 5: July 2
In the end of your tour you'll see the most important places: the Southern Armenia and the Biblical Mount Ararat, the symbol of eternity for the Armenian people with the fruitful and beautiful Ararat Valley. Khor Virap Monastery /Deep Hole/, where Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for 13 years, and the most magnificent and luxuriously ornamented monastery- Noravank, perfectly blending with the surrounding reddish rocks and landscape of the Vayoths Dzor region.

Day 6: July 3
Return to Sadakhlo border, en route visiting Haghartsin Monastery.

Tbilisi sightseeing tour: Metekhi Church 13th c., Narikhala fortress 4th c., sulfur baths, Sioni Cathedral 6-13th c., Anchiskhati basilica 6th c. Funicular. Visit Georgian history museum after lunch.

Day 7: July 4
Tbilisi - Ambrolauri
Then we will drive to Mtskheta, capital and religious center of East Georgian kingdom from 4th c. B.C. to 5th c. A.D. Visit Jvari monastery (6th c) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th c.), both included in UNESCO world Heritage sites.
Later we will explore ancient temple town Uplistsikhe from 10th c. B.C. and continue Drive to Ambrolauri.

On our way we'll see stone column with inscriptions on it in ancient Georgian. We will enjoy beautiful view of Central Caucasus Range, Shaori reservoir (1160m.)

Day 8: July 5
Ambrolauri - Phutiethi
We will visit: Museum in Ambrolauri, Nikortsminda Cathedral of 12th c. (1200 m.); Agara church, Khotevi fortress and church.
After lunch arrive to village Phuthieti.
Racha region, where according to the canon law, bright stars first entered was announced as cathedral province of Colchis Kingdom. You will see the oldest cult stone of the Sun (Ra), ritual dances and songs; hear the oldest hymn of the sun worshippers - "Rashovda".

Day 9: July 6
Phutiethi - Sadmeli
There are remains of the earliest Colchis temples of the sun where Argonauts arrived and stole the Golden Fleece. It was temple of legendary Medea, Colchis king Ayety's daughter, and nearby, on alpine zone, the peculiarity of the flora gives us ground to believe that Medea, besides her responsibilities to her religion grew unique plants here, observed even today in this region.

Sadmeli - Tbilisi
