Mtskheta was ancient capital of Georgia from 4th c. B.C. to 5th c. A.D. This little city is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

Sites to visit in Tbilisi:

Metekhi church, (5th c) presents one of the most important architectural monuments of old Tbilisi.
Narikala Fortress (4th c), dominates over the Old Town as a most impressive architectural landmark.
Old Sulphur Baths with curative properties were commented by numerous travelers who visited the city.
Sioni Cathedral, (6th c) the main cathedral of Georgia. One of the Holy relics, cross of Saint Nino, enlightener of the country is kept in the temple.
Anchiskhati Basilica, (6th c) is one of the oldest churches of Tbilisi. The first foundation dates back to 4th c. and is connected with the adoption of Christianity in Georgia.
Mtatsminda: "The Holy Mountain" is on the altitude of 729 m above the sea level above the city. The first name dates back to the 6th c and is linked with the name of monk David who led a secluded life there. There is a pantheon of famous Georgian public figures.

Sites to visit in Mtskheta:

Jvari monastery (6th c.) is the culmination of a number of artistic and architectural aspirations in early Georgian Christian architecture.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral of 11th c. is one of the most sacred places in Georgia; contains the grave of Sidonia, buried holding the robe of Christ.
