Day Trip. 80 km southeast of Tbilisi

The 13 Holy Syrian Fathers from Antioch were responsible for strengthening Orthodox Christianity in Georgia in 6thc. They founded several monasteries in Eastern and middle parts, Kartli and Kakheti, and turned these two regions into the leading centers of Christian culture.

David Gareji Monastery and Udabno caves represent truly special tourist attractions. The classic short walk takes you through an abundance of sandstone colors, extraordinary medieval frescoes, birdlife and semi-desert wildlife, the picturesque landscape and rock carved-out water channels near the entrance of the monks’ residence.

Tour Schedule:

08:00-09:00: Departure from Tbilisi
Drive to David Gareja desert via town of Rustavi, one of the major industrial towns of Georgia.
For last 30 km, we will drive on ground roads in semi desert. Guided excursion to the caves.
Outdoor picnic lunch nearby the monastery complex.
16:00-17:00: return to Tbilisi
