Day by day itinerary Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi, Transfer from TBS airport Dinner and overnight in Tbilisi Day 2: Tbilisi Breakfast at the hotel 9:00: Tbilisi sightseeing tour: Metekhi church (13th c), Narikala Fortress (4th c), Sulfer bathhouses, Sioni Cathedral (6-13th cc), Anchiskhati Basilica (6th c), Tbilisi Historical Museum. 13:00: Lunch 14:00: Visit Ethnographical Museum Dinner and overnight in Tbilisi Day 3: Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Gori - Engurhesi Breakfast at the hotel 9:00: Drive to Mtskheta - country's ancient capital and regional center. Visit Jvari Monastery (6th c), Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th c), both UNESCO world heritage sights and travel to Gori - "heart" of the Kartli region. Excursion at J. Stalin's house-museum 13:00: lunch 14:00: Explore ancient cave town Uplistsikhe from 1st millennium BC Continue driving west, to the territory of ancient Colchis kingdom Dinner and overnight in the hotel Engurhesi, at the hydro station - jumping point to Mestia Day 4: Engurhesi - Mestia Breakfast at the hotel 9:00: Change the transport and drive to Mestia by Russian jeeps. Exciting and picturesque travel awaits us in the ravines of River Enguri. We will visit churches with fascinating frescoes in Latali and Lenjeri. 13:00: lunch 14:00: Visit Mestia Ethnographical Museum where you can observe ancient manuscripts from 9-12th cc and fascinating collection of Georgian golden and silver icons. Dinner and overnight in Mestia Day 5: Mestia - Ushguli Breakfast in the morning 9:00: You will find yourself surrounded with medieval defensive towers, high mountains of Caucasus and roaring waterfalls. Drive to Ushguli is especially attractive. You will pass village Ipari where the spirit of medieval life is very strong. 11-12th cc frescos in a tiny church will fill you with impressions. 13:00: Picnic lunch 14:00: Walk around Village Ushguli (2400 m) which is included in UNESCO World Heritage Sights. Dinner and overnight in Ushgili Day 6: Ushguli Breakfast in the morning 10:00: You will have a wonderful opportunity to observe how local dwellers lead their fight for survival in difficult climatic conditions. We will visit Ethnographical museum, which is located in a traditional tower and impressive Lamaria Church. 13:00: Picnic Lunch 14:00: Walk to the foothills of Georgia's highest peak Shkhara (5068 m) Dinner and overnight in Ushguli Day 7: Ushguli - Mestia Breakfast 10:00: Drive to Mestia. On the route we will visit very attractive church with medieval frescoes in village Kala. 13:00: Picnic Lunch 14:00: If we are lucky with weather we will be able to walk down the picturesque Guruldi gorge. Dinner and overnight in Mestia Day 8: Mestia - Becho - Engurhesi 9:00: Drive to Becho, walk through the gorge 13:00: picnic lunch Return to Mestia and travel for dinner and overnight in Engurhesi Day 9: Engurhesi - Zugdidi - Kutaisi - Borjomi Breakfast at the hotel 9:00: In the morning, drive to Zugdidi - administrative center of Samegrelo region. Excursion at Dadiani Palace Drive to Vani where in year 2003 archaeologists discovered unique collection of jewelry and religious artifacts from pagan times 13:00: Lunch Arrive in Kutaisi ancient capital of Georgia Visit monastery complex and academy of Gelati (beginning of 12th c) and Bagrati Cathedral from 11th c. Drive to Spa resort Borjomi Walk in Borjomi-Kharagauli national park Dinner and overnight in Borjomi Day 10: Borjomi - Vardzia - Bavra - Gyumri Breakfast at the hotel In the morning drive South to explore city-monastery Vardzia (12th c) cut out in rock. Picnic lunch near the sight Travel to Georgia-Armenian border Bavra Cross the border, change transport and guide Drive to the city of Gyumri Dinner and overnight in Gyumri Day 11: Gyumri - Amberd - Saghmosavank Monastery -Yerevan After early morning Gyumri city tour, we will move to Yerevan. On the route, we will visit Amberd fortress from 10c., then Saghmosavank Monastery 12c. We will have lunch in Artashat city and drive straight to Yerevan. We will have evening city tour, which includes Blue Mosque, Monument Mother of Armenia, panoramic view of the city, and the Republic square. Dinner with the folk music accompaniment Dinner and overnight in Yerevan Day 12: Yerevan - Echmiadzin Holly After breakfast, we will visit Matenadaran museum - a unique depository and research institute of ancient manuscripts. Then we will visit Persian Blue Mosque from 1766; after lunch we will visit Echmiadzin, the center of Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Echmiadzin Cathedral founded in 301. Continue to Hripsime Church and Zvartnots Temple, both of the 7th century. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan Day 13. Yerevan - Lake Sevan Breakfast at the hotel After we will drive straight to Lake Sevan, the much-treasured jewel of Armenia, visit the peninsula monastery of 10th century; we will pass evening with the folk music accompaniment. Dinner and overnight in Sevan.
