From the Black Sea coast 8 days/7 nights This tour in Georgia begins from Batumi and is especially convenient for tourists, arriving from Turkey by plane or by ship or through the border Sarpi. You will begin discovering our ancient country from West by travelling through South and East parts of Georgia. On 8th day you'll return to Batumi. Best Time
Day by day itinerary Day 1. Group meets with local guide at Batumi airport (or sea port, or at Sarpi boarder). Relax, enjoy breakfast at the national restaurant and travel to east. According to the ancient greek legend about the argonauts, Kutaisi used to be the capital of Colchis Kingdom 13:00 Accommodation at the hotel and lunch at the restaurant . You will have a wonderful opportunity to tast western Georgian wine. 14:30 After the lunch we will travel to explore Gelati Monastery Complex (8 km from Kutaisi). There we will find the building of 12th century Academy, beautiful frescos and reknown Gelati mosaics. Later we will visit the ruins of Bagrati Cathedral (11th c) in the center of the city. (Both monuments are included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.) Dinner and overnight at a local guesthouse in Kutaisi Day 2: Kutaisi - Bakuriani 9:00 Breakfast at the guesthouse in Kutaisi 10:30 Visit archaeological excavations in the city of Vani and Archaelogical Museum 12:30 Continue travel to east, pass Rikoti Pass - natural border dividing eastern and western Georgia. On our way we will visit the residence of king Demeter and 9th century chapel in the village Ubisa and observe wonderful frescos from 14th century. 13:30 Lunch at the restaurant "Imereti" near the Rikoti-pass 15:30 Walk in the Bordjomi National Park and enjoy mineral waters 17:30 Trip to mountain resort Bakuriani (30 km from Bordjomi) Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Bakuriani Day 3: Bordjomi - Gori - Mtskheta - Tbilisi 9:00 Breakfast at the Hotel 10:00 Depart for Gori - the "heart" of Kartli region built on the cross-road of ancient trade routes. We will visit Stalin's Museum in the center of the city. The excursion will last for 30 minutes. 12:00 Visit Uplistsikhe Fortress-town, 12 km from Gori. The entire city was cut out in rock in 1st millenium BC. The excursion will last for 40 minutes. 13:30 Lunch at the restaurant 14:30 Travel to Mtskheta - ancient capital and religious center of Georgia. We will visit Jvari (cross) Monastery (6th c) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th c) Both monuments are included in UNESCO World Heritage sights 16:30 Trip to the capital of Georgia In the evening we will sight-see the highlights of Tbilisi city: Metekhi Church (13th c), Narikala Fortress (4th c) looking over the old town, Silfur bath-houses, Sioni Cathedral (6-13cc), Anchiskhati Basilica (6th c) Dinner and overnight in Tbilisi Day 4: Tbilisi - Kazbegi 9:00 Breakfast at the hotel 10:00 Today we will travel to North following the Georgian Military Highway, central magistral linking Caucasian countries with Russia. Stop near the Jinvali reservour and visit Ananuri Fortress from 16-17 cc, former residence of local feudals Picnic Lunch in the Mountains Picturesque and exciting trip awaits us along the Aragvi river.You will find yourself surrounded with magestic Caucasus mountains, glaciers, high peaks and roaring waterfalls. The road over the Jvari (cross)-pass (2395 m) and Terek River Valley are especially attractive. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Kazbegi Day 5: Kazbegi - Borjomi 9:00 Breakfast at the hotel 10:00 In the morning we will travel to visit Gergeti Monastery Complex (14th c), raised over the village on 2000 meters from sea level. The temple is located on the slope of Kazbegi glacier (4033 m). Hike duration: 2-3 hours 13:30 Lunch in Kazbegi Later we will depart for balneological resort Borjomi Walk in Borjopmi-Kharagauli park Dinner and overnight at hotel in Borjomi Day 6: Borjomi - Bakuriani 9:00 Breakfast at the hotel Travel South, to one of the most wonderful places of Meskheti province. Explore Vardzia - cave-town monastery complex from middle ages, founded in 12th c, cut out in rock of Mtkvari ravine Picnic Lunch near the site Dinner and overnight in Bakuriani Day 7: Bakuriani - Batumi 9:00 Breakfast at the hotel 10:00 Travel to Batumi Visit Batumi Botanical Garden Lunch at the restaurant Excursion to the antique Gonio Fortress, where once the fort of Roman legions was located Evening walk along the Black Sea shore.
