Classic Tour to Georgia 8 days/7 nights This cultural tour will give you an opportunity to travel in completely distinct regions of Georgia. The highlands of Khevi (Gudauri & Stephantsminda), the central agricultural region of Kartli (Mtskheta, Gori) and the lowlands of the western Imereti will reveal to you the most exotic country in Europe. Day by day itinerary Day 1. Arrival transfer from TBS airport to the hotel. Airport is located on 20 min. drive from the Hotel. O/N in Tbilisi Day 2. TBS-Bakuriani 8:00 breakfast at the hotel 9:00 drive to visit two UNESCO world heritage sites: Jvari Monastery 6th c & Svetitskhoveli Cathedral 11th c in Mtskheta, the old capital town of Georgia. The old capital is located in 22 km from Tbilisi. There is not traffic on the highway. 12:00 -13:00 we can have a coffee break at a small local restaurant 13:00 drive to Gori, where Soviet Dictator Stalin was born. Gori is a small city, 80 km from Tbilisi, it takes about 40 min to drive from Mtskheta to Gori. We will visit Stalin's house-museum. Excursion takes about 30 min. 16:00 explore Uplistsikhe caves (1st century BC). Uplistsikhe is located 12 km away from Gori and it takes about 15 min to drive on a back road to the caves. The excursion will last for 40 min. 17:00 Drive to the Spa city Borjomi, visit the national park, where we can taste famous mineral spring water Borjomi. 18:30 Drive to the Ski resort Bakuriani for O/N in the hotel I would like to inform you: Borjomi is a very nice spa, Soviet Government's favorite place, even Stalin used to stay there. Before the establishment of Soviet Union, Borjomi served as Russian King's residence. As an option we can stay for o/n in Borjomi hotel.* Bakuriani is located 32 km from Borjomi, up in the mountains, 1650 m above sea level. Dinner and O/N in Bakuriani Day 3. 08:00 the buffet breakfast at the hotel 09:00. This day offers travelers an opportunity to explore 12th c cave city Vardzia, carved into the volcanic rocks on 13 levels, linked inside by internal corridors, secrete tunnels, painted chapels. All day we will drive along different medieval fortresses by Kura riverside and have the picnic lunch on our way. The rout is picturesque and pleasant. You will enjoy full day exploration of Javakheti region. Dinner and O/N in Bakuriani Day 4. 08:00 breakfast at the hotel 9:00 drive to the western Georgia via Rikoti pass on the west of the second largest city in Georgia: Kutaisi. We can make several stops on our way: there is a pottery market on the driveway, selling baskets, honey, mushrooms. 12:00 Lunch on the route, at a local restaurant. 13:30 visit two UNESCO world heritage sites: Bagrati cathedral (11th c), located in Kutaisi city center on top of the hill and Gelati Academy (12th c) with beautiful mosaics inside, situated 8 km from Kutaisi. 15:30 we can visit local fruit market in Kutaisi. Kutaisi is famous for its hospitality, delicious cuisine and special dishes such as Imeretian cheese pie, Khachapuri. Dinner and O/N in Kutaisi hotel Note: there are no 4 or 5* hotels in Kutaisi Day 5. 8:00 breakfast at the hotel 9:00 drive to the East, passing back Rikoti Pass and then to the North via Georgian Military Highway to Gudauri Ski resort. 12:30 we will have a lunch at a local restaurant to taste Khinkali, the favorite dish of mountain people. The scenery is changing dramatically and we will find attractive views of Great Caucasus Range. Dinner and O/N in Gudauri hotel Note: Gudauri is located on the altitude of 2000 m above sea level Day 6. 9:00 breakfast at the hotel 10:00 Full day adventure exploration of high mountains Bus takes us to the North. We will reach 2395 m level on the Cross Pass, where we can make several stops to taste mineral waters as well as observe snowy peaks of the mountains and waterfalls, the birthplace of Aragvi River. Two hours easy hiking to the top of Mount Gergeti, we will visit St. Trinity church (14th c), located above Stephanetsninda village and the same time under the beautiful peak Kazbegi glacier (4033m). Picnic lunch in Dariali canyon Dinner and O/N in Gudauri hotel Day 7. 9:00 breakfast at the hotel Drive back to the capital city. It takes about 2 hours, (120 km). 12:00 Drive to David Gareji desert via industrial city Rustavi, visit 6th century Lavra Monastery founded by one of thirteen Assyrian Fathers, St. David Picnic Lunch near the site Optional 2 hours trekking to Udabno Caves nearby Azerbaijan border to see the beautiful frescos on the walls of refectory and prayers' caves Drive back to Tbilisi, (74 km) 19:00 Farewell dinner and folklore Show at traditional Georgian restaurant O/N in Tbilisi hotel. Day 8. 8:00 breakfast at the hotel Full day city tour, visit Old and new districts, Old Synagogue; Museum of Archaeology, Narikala Fortress (4th century); Sulfur bathes; Metekhi church (13th century); Anchiskhati basilica (6th century); Rustaveli Avenue, Funicular In the evening, check out from the hotel, Transfer to TBS airport for departure to Tel Aviv Sights to visit: Tbilisi City Tour: Old and new Tbilisi; Narikala Fortress 4th century; Metekhi church 13th century; Anchiskhati basilica 6th century; Sulfur bathes; Sioni Cathedral; Old Synagogue; Museum of Archaeology in Caravanserai, Tbilisi Mtskheta - an ancient capital of Georgia, UNESCO World Heritage Site; Svetistkhoveli Cathedral, 11th century; Jvari church dating from 6th century; Georgian Western Highway and Rikoti Pass - natural border between the east and the west; and the tunnel, length of the tunnel is 1850 m Gori: Uplistsikhe cave city from 1st millenium BC; Kutaisi Synagogue; Bagrati Cathedral built in 1003; Gelati Academy 12th century, mosaics and murals from 12-17th centuries; Borjomi: mineral springs and park, Khertvisi Fortress 10th c, Vardzia cave city 12th c Georgian Military highway: leads and links to the Russian frontiers to the Northern boundaries of Caucasus Mountains; Ananuri 16th-17th cc Aragvi Duck's residence, Gergeti St.Trinity church 14th c Dariali Canyon on the way to Russian border.
