Day by day itinerary Day 1: Tashkent Early morning arrival to Tashkent - the capital of Uzbekistan. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation. Rest after a long flight. City tour around Tashkent: Old part of the city: an architectural complex "Khazret-Imam" incl. necropolis of imam Abu Bakr Muhammad al-Kaffal Shashi who was one of the first Muslim imams and famous divine and poet (16th c), "Barak-khan Medressa" - (16th c), "Tellya Sheikh Medressa" also called "Khast Imom Mosque" where Osman Quran - the world's oldest is kept (19th c), "Mui-Mubarak Medressa (19th c)", "Juma Mosque" (15-19th cc), "Hadra" square, "Kukeldash Medressa" ("Foster brother") - was built by Kukekdash - the vizier of Tashkent khans (16th c), "Jami Mosque"- the third biggest mosque in Uzbekistan, "Chorsu" - oriental bazaar, "Friendship of People" square, "National park", "Abdulkasim Medressa" now is the centre for traditional arts with attractive souvenirs by local artisans (19th c). Dinner. Overnight in Tashkent Day 2: Tashkent - Khiva Early breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to airport at 05:50. Departure to Urgench by flight HY1051 at 07:00. At 08:40 arrival to Urgench - the administration centre of Khorezm region. Transfer to Khiva - the only "Museum under the open sky" in Central Asia that is completely preserved up to nowadays (35 km, 30 min). Accommodation at the hotel, located inside or nearby "Ichan-Qala" - the historical center of Khiva which was inscribed into UNESCO World Heritage List. City tour around architectural complex "Ichan-Qala" (12-19th cc): "Kunya-Ark" khan's castle - the inner citadel of Ichan-Qala (16-17th cc), "Kalta Minor Tower" ("Short minaret") that should have become the biggest and highest minaret in Central Asia (19th c), "Muhammad Amin-Khan" - the biggest medieval medressa in Khiva (1845-1855), "Djuma Mosque" (10th c), "Tash-Hauli" ("Stone courtyard") palace (19th c), "Ak-Mosque" ("White Mosque") - a small quarter mosque by the gates of Palvan-Darvaza (1838-1842), necropolis of Pahlavan Mahmud - the cultic center of Ichan-Qala (1810-1913 cc), residence of Islam Khodja (1910 y) - the vizier of last khan. Ensemble consists of the smallest in Khiva medressa and the minaret, which top platform has a height 45 m and is the highest observation point in town. Free time. Overnight in Khiva Day 3: Khiva - Bukhara Breakfast. Starting at 06:00 coach trip to Bukhara via Kizil-Kum desert along Caravan road (480 km, 5-7 hrs). Arrival to Sacred Bukhara - one of the most esteemed cities of Islamic civilization. Hotel accommodation. Afternoon city tour: mausoleum of the Samanids - the most ancient of Central Asia brick building, a masterpiece of world architecture (9-10th c), mausoleum Chashma Ayub that belongs to esteemed "places of trace" left by saint persons (14th c). "Bolo-Houz Mosque" - the only monument of medieval Bukhara (beg. of 20th c), silk carpet shops, complex "Poi Kalon" ("Beneath the Great"): "Kalyan Minaret" (12th c), "Kalyan Mosque"; "Miri Arab Madrassah" - (16th c), "Taki Zargaron" - the dome of jewelers (15-16th cc), "Ulugbeg Madrassah" - one of the 3 madrassahs constructed by grandson of Tamerlan - Ulugbeg (15th c), "Abdulaziz-khan Madrassah" ( mid. of 17th c), Tim of Abdullah-Khan madrassah (1588-1590), atlas shops, "Magoki-Attari Mosque" - the most ancient mosque of Bukhara (12th c) is considered a masterpiece of Bukhara architecture, "Khanaka and madrassah of Nadir Divan-Beghi" - a massive rectangular structure that was a place for staying and meditation of Sufis (17th c), "Kukeldash Madrassah" (16th c) "Lyabi-Hauz" ensemble - the largest artificial reservoir of medieval Bukhara - is very popular among tourists (14-17th cc). Overnight in Bukhara hotel Day 4: Bukhara - Samarkand Breakfast. At 06:00 a transfer to the historical town of Samarkand - a crossroad of the world's cultures, one of the most ancient cities in the world (268 km, 4 hrs). Tour around the capital of Tamerline' Empire: "Gur Emir Mausoleum" - Tamerlan's tomb (14-15th c) that was build for Temur's grandson Muhammad-Sultan and tombs of three other Temurids - sons of Temur - Miranshah and Shahruh and his grandson Ulugbek, "Ruhabad Mausoleum" ("House of Spirit") - the legend says that under the dome there is a box with seven hairs of Prophet Muhammad (14th c), "Registan Square" ("A sandy place") - the major square of Samarkand: "Ulugbeg Medressa" - Sheikh Khodja Akhrar and poet Djami were among outstanding graduates of the medressa (15th c), "Sher-Dor Medressa" ("Having tigers") (17th c.), "Tillya-Kari Medressa" ("Coated by gold") - the richest gilding on the dome, walls and mihrab surpassed all famous buildings in Central Asia (17th c). A mosque named after Hazret-Hyzr - an Islamic saint and eternal wanderer. He was esteemed as giving richness and good luck in far voyages and trade (19th c), cathedral mosque "Bibi-Khanym" that was named after the oldest wife of Tamerlan (14th c), an architectural complex "Shahi-Zinda" ("Alive king") - necropolis on the slope of the Afrosiab hill is connected with Kusam ibn Abbas - the cousin of Prophet Muhammad (11-15th c). Evening transfer to Tashkent (315 km, 5 hrs). Arrival and accommodation in the hotel. Overnight in Tashkent Day 5: Tashkent - Baku Breakfast. This day you will visit: Siab bazaar, taste the best Samarkand bread and fruits, excavations and museum of the ancient city of Afrosiab, mausoleum of Khodja Daniyar - the legend associates him with Koran' and Biblical prophet Daniyar (Daniel) whose remains were brought here by Tamerlan, memorial complex of outstanding Sunni theologian Imam Mukhammad al-Bukhari (died in 870) and the biggest observatory of 15th c. built by Ulugbeg, silk processing factory "Aiesha". Meeting at the airport, accommodation in hotel. Overnight in Baku Day 6: Baku Baku city tour. Excursion to the old city "Icheri sheher" after breakfast. Visiting of the complex of "Shirvanshahs Palace" (the residence of Shirvanshahs in XV century, one of the largest monuments of Azeri architecture, included into the list of monuments of the world legacy maintained by UNESCO), "Maiden Tower" (one of the defensive constructions of VII-XII centuries, the symbol of Baku, it had become a museum in 1964 and has been included into the list of UNESCO world legacy since 2000). Visiting of Azerbaijan State Museum of Art. After lunch visiting of Azerbaijan Carpet and national-applied Art Museum, then - visiting of Martyrs' Avenue situated in the highest place of city from there is a wonderful view of city. Then we walk in the Seaside Boulevard. Visiting of Azerbaijan Historical Museum and walking in the Fountain Square. Meals of national cuisine at the restaurant in the evening. Overnight in Baku Day 7: Baku - Gobustan - Baku After breakfast - journey to the stone century ("Gobustan" historic-architectural reserve) and visiting of Mud Volcanoes. After lunch excursion to the Temple of fire-worshippers "Ateshgah" (XVII century) in Surakhani, Fortress of XIII century (the height of the tower is 15 meters and it has 4 floors), the Mount with eternal fire. Farewell banquet in Azerbaijan restaurant with national show-program. Overnight in Baku Day 8: Baku - Sheki After breakfast - driving to Sheki, north-western part of Azerbaijan. Visiting of Caravanseray (Sheki khans Palace, XVIII century). Caravanseray is a rare combination example of national architectonics. Leisure. Meals of cuisine of Sheki region. Overnight in Sheki Day 9: Sheki - Telavi Breakfast in hotel and departure to the Azerbaijan-Georgian border. Meeting with the Georgian guide at Lagodekhi border. Visit Gremi church and fortress of 16th c. Drive to Telavi - cultural and administrative centre of Kakheti - main wine region of Georgia. Lunch at the local restaurant. Visit Telavi Ethnographical museum. Overnight in Telavi Day 10: Telavi - Tbilisi After breakfast visit Telavi Ethnographical museum, noble Al. Funicular, After lunch we will visit Georgian history museum. Then we will drive to Mtskheta, capital and religion center of East Georgian kingdom from 4th c. B.C. to 5th c. A.D., visit Jvari monastery 6th c. and Svetitskhoveli cathedral 11th c., included in UNESCO. Dinner and overnight in Tbilisi Day 12: Tbilisi - Gori - Bakuriani After breakfast, we’ll drive to Gori, little city, where Stalin was born; visit Stalin Museum. Then we will visit temple town Uplistsikhe - from 11th c. BC. Drive via spa-city Borjomi, where we will taste the famous Borjomi mineral waters. Dinner and overnight in Bakuriani Day 13: Bakuriani - Vardzia - Bavra - Gyumri Breakfast at the hotel In the morning drive South to explore city-monastery Vardzia (12th c) cut out in rock. Picnic lunch near the sight Travel to Georgia-Armenian border Bavra. Cross the border, change transport and guide Drive to the city of Gyumri. Overnight and dinner in guesthouse in Gyumri Day 14: Gyumri - Amberd - Saghmosavank Monastery -Yerevan After early morning Gyumri city tour, we will move to Yerevan. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan Day 15: Yerevan - Echmiadzin Holly - Zvartnots temple - Yerevan After breakfast, we will have city tour, which includes Monument Mother of Armenia, panoramic view of the city, the Republic square. We will visit Matenadaran museum - a unique depository and research institute of ancient manuscripts. Then we will visit Persian Blue Mosque from 1766; after lunch we will visit Echmiadzin, the center of Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Echmiadzin Cathedral founded in 301. Continue to Hripsime Church and Zvartnots Temple, both of the 7th century. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan Day 16: Khor virap , Noravank After breakfast we will have tour to the south-east part of Armenia, not long before Yerevan is the 11th century fortified monastery of Khor Virap set against the majestic backdrop of Mt Ararat. Inside is the supposed prison of St Gregory the Illuminator, the 3rd century evangelizer of the Armenians. Near the wine making centre of Areni we make another diversion to the 12th century monastery of Noravank. Picnic lunch Visit Areni vinery, where you can taste different type of wines Back to Yerevan Overnight in Yerevan Day 17: Garni- Geghard After breakfast excursion to the partly rock-cut Geghard Monastery (middle centuries) up a delightful ravine to the east of Yerevan. Near the end of the ravine is the small but superbly intact Hellenistic temple at Garni 1st c. Lake Sevan. Transfer to the airport.
