Day to day itinerary

  • DAY 1: ARRIVAL in Tbilisi

    Meeting at the airport. Transfer to the hotel in Tbilisi.

    Overnight at the hotel in Tbilisi.


    After Breakfast at the hotel start the exploration of the capital of Georgia – Tbilisi. During the full day city tour you will visit all the main attraction of the city. Start from the Holy Trinity Cathedral (“Sameba”) built in 21st c. and being the main Christian Orthodox cathedral in Georgia. Continue to Metekhi churchof 13th c. located by the bank of Mtkvari river. Ride up to Narikala Fortress by aerial cable car. Narikala fortress dates back to 4th century AD, it has a superb location with magnificent panoramic views over the Tbilisi city. Stroll down to Legvtakhevi (translated literally as “Fig Ravine”) – a beautiful place with waterfall.Take a walk in park near Sulfur bathhouses, well-known for their healing powers are located nearby, Shardeni street and its neighborhood and Meidan square with its outdoor cafes, galleries and souvenir shops. Visit Caravanserai - Tbilisi History Museum. The museum presents unique items, household accessories and weapons dating back to the Bronze Age. Cross the Bridge of Peace – a modern glass bridge in high-tech style.

    Continue to the National Museum of Georgia on Rustaveli Avenue. The museum collection includes artifacts of natural and human history, with animal remains, and rich ethnographic and archaeological collections beginning from Paleolithic era to Middle Ages.

    Breakfast at the hotel and drive to David Gareja semi-desert. Explore David Gareja rock-hewn monastery complex and caves. The complex integrates hundreds of cells, living areas, churches and chapels all cut in rocks. Part of the complex is also located in Azerbaijan. David Gareja monastery of Lavra was founded in 6th c. by St. David Garejeli, one of the Assyrian monks who arrived in Georgia to spread Orthodox Christianity in regions. Udabno cave monastery of 9th-16th cc. contains frescos of high artistic skill, which made them an essential part of world treasure.

    Continue way to Kakheti – wine-producing region of Georgia – and arrive in Signagi. Signagi is a small town surrounded by defensive wall of 18th c. The town is also called “the city of love” by locals. 

    Overnight in Signagi.

  • Day 4: Sighnagi–Bodbe–Velistskhe–Tsinandali – Napareuli - Gremi-Telavi

    Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Bodbe monastery, originally built in 9th c. and renovated in 17th c. nowadays it functions as nunnery and is popular pilgrimage site for Georgians as well as travelers. The monastery is closely associated with St. Nino from Cappadocia as her relics are buried there.

    Continue our root to Velistskhe family winery “Numisi” from 16th c. This is the one of the oldest wine cellars in this region and where you may taste Georgian Qvevri wines (Optional). Qvevri wines are produced according to ancient Georgian wine-making traditions, without adding any additives and are fermented in massive clay vessels (called “Qvevri”) buried in ground.

    After Velistsikhe visit Tsinandali museum of Alexander Chavchavadze – Kakhetian nobleman and public figure. Alexander Chavchavadze was familiar with European ways of making wine and established the winery and decorative garden, where he frequently entertained his guests.

    Drive to Napareuli village and visit Twin's Museum and Wine Cellar. Optional wine-tasting is available at Napareuli for an additional fee. Afterwards visit Gremi Citadel and Royal Residence. The town of Gremi functioned as the Capital of Kakheti kingdom in 16th-17th cc.

    Dinner and overnight in Telavi.


    Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive through Gombori pass to Mtskheta. Mtskheta functioned as the capital of Eastern Georgia – Iberia – from 3rd c. BC to 5th c. AD. Mtskheta historical monuments – Jvari Monastery of 6th c. and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral of 11th c. – are included in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

    Drive north to Gudauri ski resort via Georgian Military Highway. The way to Gudauri is quite picturesque with attractive views of Great Caucasus Range, serpentine roads and waterfalls. On the way, visit Ananuri fortress which was the residence of Aragvi Eristavis’ (Dukes) during 16th-17th cc.

    Dinner and overnight in Gudauri.


    Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will explore Caucasus Mountains. Travel to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) – administrative center of Khevi province – via Jvari Pass (Cross Pass; 2395 m. above sea level). During the trip we will make few stops to local taste mineral waters. Arrive in Kazbegi and take an easy walk (approx. 2 hours) to Gergeti Mountain, where Gergeti Holy Trinity Church of 14th c. stands.

    Return to Kazbegi town and drive to Dariali gorge and Gveleti waterfalls. In the evening return to Gudauri.

    Dinner and overnight in Gudauri.


    After breakfast at the hotel drive to Gori. The Soviet dictator J. Stalin was born here and spent his first 4 years. Nowadays his house functions as a museum and presents items related to Stalin’s life. The museum consists of the dictator’s personal train carriage, museum building and a small house where he was born. After excursion at Stalin’s house-museum, visit Uplistsikhe caves, which date back to 1st millennium BC. 

    Continue to Kutaisi via Rikoti pass. Make couple of stops on the way to visit pottery and farmers’ market. Arrive in Kutaisi and have excursions at Gelati Academy and Monastery (12th c.) and Bagrati Cathedral (11th c.) – both included in UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.

    Dinner and overnight in Kutaisi.


    Have breakfast at the hotel and then visit local farmers’ market in Kutaisi, selling ecologically friendly fruits and vegetables and delicious Imeretian cheese. Afterwards visit Sataplia karst caves and natural reserve. Sapalia has been renovated in recent years and turned into a Jurassic Theme Park, which preserves dinosaur footprints. Continue to Zugdidi and visit Dadiani Palace. The museum was established in the middle of 19th c. by Prince David Dadiani of Samegrelo and still functions as an exhibition, where important findings from Nokalakevi archaeological site are presented.

    Drive north to Svaneti and stop near Enguri Dam (the second highest arch dam in the world) and arrive in Mestia.

    Dinner and overnight in Mestia.


    Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will explore Svaneti region surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains, glaciers, high peaks and roaring waterfalls. Drive on 4x4 vehicles to the Ushguli village – the highest continuously inhabited places in Europe. Ushguli was included in UNESCO World Heritage. The road to Ushguli goes through the villages Ipari and Kala. The small churches located in these villages contain some beautiful frescos and murals.

    Ten take a walk towards Shkahra Glacier-the highest mountain in Georgia 5068 m. In the evening get back to Mestia and have an excursion at 12th c. Svan dwelling belonging to Margiani family.

    Breakfast at the hotel and have a morning visit to Svaneti Museum. The museum collection includes unique icons and manuscripts from 4-6th cc, ethnographic artifacts associated with Svaneti and its people, etc.

    Drive South to Batumi – the capital of Autonomous Republic of Adjara – located by the shores of Black Sea. Stroll on the Batumi Boulevard, visit Piazza square and enjoy the lights of dancing fountains in the evening.

  • DAY 11: BATUMI

    Breakfast in the hotel and visit Gonio Fortress – an archaeological site dating from 1st c. AD. According to historical sources Gonio-Apsaros was a well-defended Roman city in Colchis in 2nd c. AD and later came under Byzantine rule. Many legends are connected to Gonio and one of them assumes that the grave of St. Matthias – one of 12 apostles of Jesus Christ – is located here.

    Afterwards drive to Green Cape, where Batumi Botanical Garden is located. Batumi Botanical garden is unique for its combinations of species from completely different climatic zones. Have a walk in the garden and enjoy the views on Black Sea shores. 

    Return to Batumi and take a walk in the old city.

    Breakfast in the hotel. Drive towards Borjomi spa-resort, take a walk in the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park and taste bubbling mineral waters from the springs. Mineral waters of Borjomi have been famous since the early 19th c. and are still exported to the world. Continue the trip to Akhaltsikhe, a historical town, which was the seat of dukes of Samtskhe during 12th-13th cc.

    Breakfast at the hotel; Explore Akhaltsikhe and enjoy sightseeing in Rabati. The complex comprises a beautiful castle of 14th c., several churches, a mosque and a museum. The museum presents manuscripts, old printed books, photographic collections, archaeological and numismatic collections and etc.

    Continue exploration of Samtskhe - Javakheti province and drive along Mtkvari river to Vardzia cave town. Stop by Khertvisi fortress of 10th c. Arrive in Vardzia – a cave city established in 12th c. and became a well-defended monastery in 13th c. Vardzia contains one of the famous frescos of Queen Tamara – the first woman who ascended to the throne in feudal Georgia.

    Overnight in Vardzia.


    Breakfast at the hotel; Drive back to Tbilisi by the road via lakes Sagamo, Paravani and Tsalka. Arrive in Tbilisi and have free time for shopping and leisure.

    After breakfast check-out from the hotel and transfer to Tbilisi International airport.
