Explore wine region of Georgia in 8 day cycling trip to Kakheti. Easy to moderate ride on quiet back roads and gravel tracks will take you to picturesque villages and ancient historical sites. There is of course delicious Georgian cuisine and wine to enjoy after a tiring ride. The group is assisted with vehicle during the trip.

Please Note! Some cycling experience is recommended. The trip cars are available to give lifts whenever people wish. This itinerary may be changed at the discretion of the guide depending on the weather conditions, physical ability of the cyclers and the trail options we decide together.

Day to day itinerary
Day 1. Arrival to Tbilisi
Meeting at the airport. Transfer to the hotel.
Overnight: Hotel in Tbilisi
Day 2. Gombori - Shuamta - Telavi
Cycling distance: 30 km
Our Vehicle will transfer you to the top of mountain pass Gombori (1630m) after Ujarma castle. This is warm up day. Cycling starts with long descend from mountain through villages and vine fields. After a while little climb will bring you to new and old Shuamta Monasteries from 5th century surrounded by forest. Descend goes until Telavi where you can relax, see the town and King Erekle castle.

Day 3. Telavi - Ikalto Academy - Alaverdi Monastery - Alvani
Cycling distance: 30km
First part of the cycling day is a little ascent until ancient Ikalto academy (11th c). Then it goes down to Alaverdi Cathedral (12th c). Just less than 4 km away is Mountain people village Lower Alvani where you can buy or just enjoy seeing traditional Tusheti wool carpets, clothing and taste local vine and Georgian homemade vodka “Chacha”

Day 4. Alvani - Gremi - Kvareli
Cycling distance: 50 km
Cycling route follows down Alazani River in Napareuli village where you can visit wine-cellar and museum, even taste some wines. Half way to Kvareli stands Gremi castle (16th c). Have an excursion to the Kings apartments in Gremi castle. At the end of the day arrive to the town Kvareli. Nearby you can visit Ilia Lake.

Day 5. Kvareli - Lagodekhi
Cycling distance: 45km
The day starts with visiting wine tunnels where you will taste some Georgian wines. After that road continuous through villages and melon farms. At the end after a little climb on a hill you will descent to Lagodekhi town where you can visit Lagodekhi national park and relax.

Day 6. Lagodekhi - Sighnaghi
Cycling distance: 45 km
This is most challenging day of the trip despite almost 20 km descent to Alazani river road goes up the hill to Sighnaghi town climbing half a kilometer in altitude. You can take a walk in an old beautiful town Sighnaghi surrounded by ancient city walls and mountains, visit nearby Bodbe monastery.

Day 7. Sighnaghi - David Gareja Monastery- Tbilisi
End of Cycling. The car will take you through desert to David Gareja monastery carved out in rocks, after walking around and sightseeing transfer to Tbilisi.
Optional: cycle from Sagarejo to David Gareja monastery complex (grade: hard; cycling distance: 50 km)

Day 8. Departure
Transfer to the airport from the hotel.
